Amazing things I found in July
Smell
Diptyque Solid Perfume
Perfumes are the best way to capture the essence of the time in a bottle. Has it ever happened to you that when you apply a particular perfume, the scent transports you back to a person, a memory or an occasion? I’m sure you know what I mean! It’s precisely for this reason, I use a variety of perfumes for special occasions so I can remember those fond times in the future.
I found this Diptyque Solid perfume. Oh! And it’s refillable. How cool is that? Also, how can we resist such beautiful packaging? This one has notes of tuberose, orange blossoms and jasmine. I’m currently obsessed with the jasmine scent, so naturally, I was drawn to this one.
It’s a scented balm that you can apply to your pulse points with your fingertips. It would work as an amazing travel product!
While I was searching about this, I found out how it’s made. It uses an enfleurage technique, a traditional French perfumery method according to The Herbal Academy. Solid odorless fat is used to capture the scent of highly fragrant flowers. The process is repeated anywhere from 6 to 36 times!
Speaking of flowers, I love flowers. I keep cut flowers around my house almost all year long. And as you guessed it can become pretty expensive. So, I’ve optimized some tricks on how to make your cut flowers last longer. You can read it here.
Style
The Hotel Bathroom Principle
There was a time when I used to dread going out in my night clothes. And for good reason. Those are your night clothes for a reason. Slowly, the world moved towards athleisure and boundaries between outfits for different occasions blurred. But honestly, I’m not a fan of that. There must be a certain level of appropriate day-to-day dressing. I came across this principle and 100% agree with it.
”When you want to cultivate serendipity, stick to the ‘Hotel Bathroom’ dress code. Always dress well enough to walk into a bathroom at any fancy hotel you’re not staying at and get away with it.”
David Perell- a writer, teacher and podcaster.
The idea is to dress up during the day. But you say what if you’re staying at home all day? So, pick some loungewear pieces that are comfortable and stylish. They are out there, I promise.
Think
The Backwards Law
More commonly referred to as “The Backward Law”. This term was coined by the philosopher “Alan Watts”. It means that the more you pursue something, the more distant it becomes.
Wanting a positive experience is a negative experience but accepting a negative experience is a positive experience.
Still with me? Let us explore how.
Abundance: The more wealth or abundance you want, the harder it is to get.
Why?
Because you are reaffirming your ‘lack of’ belief, whether it be regarding wealth or anything else. You are essentially speaking into the void that you need more which means you believe you don’t have enough. You mind is operating on a lower frequency which is why, wanting a positive experience (in this case: Abundance) is a negative experience overall.
On the split side, when you get into a state of mind where everywhere you look, you see abundance and you start being grateful for your home, your relationships, your people. This in turn cultivates a positive outcome where you have accepted and embraced all that you have. Capitalist society forces us to believe that we won’t be happy until we have that big house with an organized pantry, an Ikea cabinet filled to the brim with makeup and skincare. But those things won’t make you happy, it’s an age-old marketing strategy to get you to buy more things and to feel less than if you don’t subscribe to their ‘happiness hypothesis.’
So, start being grateful, cherish your things and the people that you have, and abundance will flow.

Siblings without Rivalry
An excellent book for parents! Siblings without Rivalry. How to inculcate cooperation between siblings. The book has a list of practical tools you can start applying TODAY! Even if you are not a parent, it still counts as an eye-opening read.
We often overlook the role of our siblings in our life. I have an amazing relationship with my brother. But it was not the same when we were children. I was the one that used to be jealous, and that too A LOT! But I guess I just grew out of it. Still, I was so shocked to discover how much our life paths are impacted by our siblings. If you have a troubled relationship with your siblings, I suggest you read this book. Try and find the reasons that might have happened. It is never too late to make amends.
